Description
FROM MOLD TO ARTIFACT – Frank Meisler delicately made a model of a custom portrait and at the time had a negative plaster mold made from it. Into this 4-part plaster mold wax was poured and in the “lost wax” technique the wax became metal and that made the original sculpture.
A quarter of this original negative plaster mold underwent now a metamorphosis. Reversing the roles of positive /negative, a new mold was made from the plaster mold itself, essentially leaving a negative impression of the original negative. Wax was poured now and metal was cast making a new final sculpture in full solid metal.
The lingering presence of the masking tape which held the original 4 quarters mold now ascends to the greater luxurious level when adorned with 24K gold plating, reversing what is regarded as high-end (metal and gold) vs. the plain (plaster), while leaving behind the original subject matter of the man portrayed.
Available with or without the gold plating.
